Hello folks, as promised I am back again with my article: Aromatherapy in skin care. Our present day lifestyle and increasing pollution pushed me to present an article on this. It is mandatory for all age group to keep track of their skin health.

The very first step to get good skin is healthy lifestyle with includes proper diet and exercise. Aromatherapy is second step to acquire a soft and healthy skin. Some always believed that aromatherapy was only about oil massages and perfumed candles but let me clear the doubt it is not so. Aromatherapy can be used to get a flexible skin.

Let us know how??

Aromatherapy is a holistic approach that makes use of plant components that include volatile oils and other aroma chemicals. This helps to improve person’s emotional and physical well being. These volatile oils are commonly known as essential oils. Skin care involves range of practices and support skin integrity and enhances its appearance. The right approach to skin health is key for long-lasting glow.

Aromatherapy sometimes acts as form of alternative medicine. Application of aromatherapy was very prevalent in spas, but now it has created its way in everyday life too.

Aromatherapy when applied on skin, oils gets absorbed into the skin and eventually into the bloodstream thus giving a long term benefits. Essential oils are volatile oils so before they absorb, evaporation occurs. So we do need something to make them absorb into skin? For absorption of essential oil we dilute them in carrier oils.

Carrier oils are base oil or vegetable oil that actually carries essential oil onto skin. We will later discuss which all carrier oils are mostly preferred for dilution. Before that we will discuss something that holds high importance in aromatherapy: skin type and oil type.

Skin-type:

Before stepping into the world of aromatherapy, one should recognize their skin type. It is key parameter because the whole process of aromatherapy depends on it. A person who has sensitive skin is more prone to skin allergies so it is advisable for them to consult aromatherapist for better results.

Even if you are new to aromatherapy, you need to have small patch test on the inside portion of your wrist to avoid any adverse effects. There are different varieties of oil for all skin types like dry, sensitive, hyper-sensitive, oily or normal skin. When you are sure of your skin type, next you should head onto type of oil.

Oil-type:

Oil type is yet another parameter to be considered before aromatherapy. There are different varieties of oil present with specific therapeutic properties in it. Make sure you have an idea which oil to apply. Secondly, your skin can respond differently to different oils. So once you get comfort with oil then start applying it to avoid any unwanted situation.  Now we should have a look on what benefits aromatherapy holds for skin?
